Honest Moment #1

I always go into the process of submitting my work with a positive attitude.

I am my harshest critic. Rewriting even one sentence over a thousand times just to ensure it is what I want. Then allowing others to read my work to flush out what I am too close to and may have missed. Then submission.

But, I noticed as the days, weeks, and even months go by I start to question my ability to complete a piece that others may find relatable.

Was the piece I submitted as good as I thought it was?

Did I convey my message in a way that is understandable?

Did my thoughts scatter?

Is my work layered or does it land flat?

Did I submit my best?

And then there is the old age question… Am I good enough?

Thoughts of this caliber are not strangers to people that put a piece of themselves in everything they do. There have been generations of artist that suffer from imposter syndrome or question their abilities. The question I pose is how do authors build the confidence to keep submitting the same works until they find the right audience?

Is it drive? Pride, or insanity that has writers to continue a process and expect a different result each time? Is that not the very definition of being insane?

If so perhaps that is what makes it beautiful. The mind is a complexity that I will spend my entire life attempting to understand. It is the greatest puzzle and not one is the same.
